Not satisfied with two metre tall sunflowers for yellow flowers? Try three metre Fartichokes for an autumn alternative. I bought two plants, and they were not in the ground long enough to grow chokes last year. When I dug them up to thin and replant there was nobody home.
But come spring, this started growing: musta been one choke deeper than my spud fork dug. I predict there will be no shortage to plant next spring!
Why fartichokes? Well, we haven’t had a crop yet so we haven’t been able to test the truth of the story for ourselves. But rumours abound that there are few other veggies that will create as much gas as Jerusalem Artichokes. I’m afeared the pair of us may wind up farting like cavalry troopers’ horses.
