The view from Colonial Knob

Does that sound kind of suspicious, or odd, or even disgusting? If it does you possibly have a filthy mind.

Rangituhi, a.k.a. Colonial Knob is a hill behind Camp Elsdon in Porirua, with a stunning viewpoint at the top of it over the Tawa – Porirua Basin. It can be accessed via a walking/mountain bike trail of something like six kilometres, or you can opt for straight up the hill for about 1.8 kms. Short sounds the go, eh?

Except it goes pretty steep all the way. Very well formed DOC track, but there are flights of steps for Africa, over 700 steps, which is gut-busting but fine going up. Coming down as daylight started to dwindle was torture on the knees, even with sticks.

But worth it for the view. Here are a couple of stitched panos taking in about 270°. I got up the boohai trying to keep the horizon level on the hills behind me,so that last 90° is missing – sorry ’bout that.

Why was I in Wellywood anyway? Sad to say it was Grey Power again. They made me angry again. So I asked the President of Grey Power Kaipara if he wanted a member to volunteer to go and shout at th’ hiheidy yins at their AGM. Turns out he did.

Tawa
Beautiful Downtown Tawa – don’t believe Lynn lives there anymore.

On a sombre note, two days after I humped my way up the track there was a horrendous attack on a woman on the track. Some arseholes just can’t take a nature walk without demonstrating they have a TOTALLY BAD nature themselves.
